"A Thousand and One Nights in the Conca Valley - 5th edition" features the most beautiful villages illuminated by the evocative light of dawns and sunsets. The leitmotif of the touring shows, organised by Città Teatro, will be the gripping tale of The Million, in homage to the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death.
Spectators are invited to venture along a symbolic route winding through the Conca Valley and representing the Silk Roads or the routes in the seas of the Orient. Each village visited will be transformed into a caravanserai, similar to the resting places of merchants travelling to the Levant. The figure of Marco Polo will emerge as an emblem of the adventures and curiosity that pushed man beyond known boundaries, free of prejudice and always in search of new knowledge.

After 17 years in Catai, the opportunity to return to Venice is given to the Polos with a mission: to escort and protect Princess Kokachin to Persia, where she is to marry King Arghun. It is this long journey and all that is never said about the young princess that makes us imagine an unprecedented narrative structure.
Each episode of the show reconstructs a stop along the voyage that takes the Polos and Princess Kokachin from China to Persia. At the heart of each performance is the pact between Marco Polo and Kokachin: Marco tells his stories from the Description of the World (known as Il Milione), while the princess responds by recounting each time a passage from a famous Yuan-era play, The Story of the Western Wing. Modelled on the Renaissance novelists, we created a kind of 'hexameter', characterised by a mutual exchange of stories, anecdotes and tales.

A convivial moment is planned after the performances.
New this year: the possibility of combining the viewing of the show with a nature walk by booking with the Malatempora association (Per Sentieri in Valconca).
